PM approves target program on cultural development

VGP – The PM has recently approved a target program on cultural development in the period of 2016-2020, with a general goal of preserving and promoting values of the country’s cultural heritage, and developing modern cultural facilities with national symbol value as well as political, historical and traditional values, towards realizing a strategic goal of building the progressive Vietnamese culture imbued with national identities.
The program features three subprojects, including preserving and promoting values of cultural heritage; strengthening investment in building and developing the cultural institution system; and developing forms of performance arts.

Accordingly, by 2020, the program strives to support the overall repair and restoration of 20 world cultural heritage, national special relics and a number of national relics with significant values; support about 400 national-level relics needing urgent upgrades and renovations; implement inventory, collection, preservation and promotion of values of intangible cultural heritage and typical folk festivals, with priority given to preserving and developing traditional cultures of 16 ethnic minority groups with a population of fewer than 10,000; and conserve 15 traditional villages and hamlets for the development of cultural tourism.

In addition, the program will support operational equipment for 15 provincial-level cultural centers and 30 district-level centers; support equipment and cultural and information products for border guard stations and their cultural communication teams to help eliminate cultural “blank spots” in border, coastal and island areas; support the restoration and maintenance of traditional craft villages; support equipment for 20 recreation sites for children; and provide cultural publications for communes in extreme difficulties, border communes, safe zone communes and ethnic boarding schools.

The program will also support the construction of three cultural facilities in localities, pursuant to the PM’s Decision No. 88/QD-TTg dated January 9, 2013 on approving a project to plan, upgrade and build new cultural facilities in the period of 2012-2020, and support equipment and the upgrade of 20 traditional theatres in localities.
