PM asks for faster pace of vaccine rollout as sub-variant BA.5 detected in Viet Nam

Specifically, the Government chief tasked the Ministry of Health to help localities speed up administration of COVID-19 vaccines, especially the third and fourth shots to people aged 12 and above, and the second dose to children aged between 5 and 11.

The Omicron sub-variant was first detected in South Africa in January and it has become a common strain in several countries.

Viet Nam has recently detected the sub-variant following genome sequencing, Dr. Phan Trong Lan, Director-General of the Health Ministry's Department of Preventive Medicine told reporters on last Monday.

He said Omicron sub-variant BA.2 still remains dominant in Viet Nam.

As of Saturday, Viet Nam confirmed 10,748,127 infection cases, including 9,699,357 recoveries and 43,047 deaths./.
