Prime Minister to attend ASEAN-EU commemorative summit, pay official visits to three European nations

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend a summit commemorating the 45th anniversary of the ASEAN-EU relations in Brussels, Belgium, on December 14 and pay official visits to Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Belgium from December 9 to 15.

The tour will be made at the invitation of President of the European Council Charles Michel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, and Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

* Viet Nam and Luxembourg established diplomatic relations in 1973. In 1995, Viet Nam officially became a partner country of Luxembourg.

The two nations started their development cooperation in the 1990s with the first General Cooperation Agreement inked in 1995. Since then, Luxembourg has provided Viet Nam with about €129 million in non-refundable official development assistance, greatly dedicating to the country's socio-economic development.

As of June 2021, Luxembourg funded 80 development projects in Viet Nam with a total budget of €129 million (over US$125.5 million).

*Viet Nam and the Netherlands established diplomatic ties in 1973. The two sides established Strategic Partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security in June 2014.

Bilateral trade has been growing at an annual average rate of 11.78 percent over the past five years.

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Viet Nam's exports to the Netherlands in the January-November period of 2020 still rose 0.22 percent on year to US$6.26 billion while its imports from the European country decreased by 4.13 percent to US$582.4 million.

As of the end of November 2020, total Dutch investment in Viet Nam reached US$10.4 billion in 375 projects.

Belgium is a strategic partner of Viet Nam in agriculture. Bilateral trade hit a record of €3.6 billion (US$3.5 billion) in 2021 and €2.5 billion in the first five months of 2022, up almost 26 percent year-on-year.
