Viet Nam, Laos agree to seek investments for strategic transport projects

VGP – Viet Nam and Laos have agreed to work together to seek investments for strategic transport connectivity projects, including the Ha Noi-Vientiane expressway and Vientiane-Vung Ang railway.

The agreement was reached at the meeting on Monday between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith.

Both Chinh and Sisoulith underlined the importance of Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam transport connectivity in a bid to promote economic, trade and investment linkages between the three economies.

The two sides also agreed to soon kick off construction of the Laos-Viet Nam Friendship Park in the capital city of Vientiane and coordinate in organizing events to mark the 60th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and 45th anniversary of the signing of the Viet Nam-Laos friendship and cooperation treaty in 2022 so as to contribute to deepening the public’s understanding on the traditional friendship, close-knit bond, and special relationship between the two countries.

They also compared notes on multilateral cooperation, especially at ASEAN and regional cooperation mechanisms, as well as on regional and international matters of shared concerns, including the East Sea issue, sustainable and effective use of the Mekong water resources.

Both sides agreed to continue close collaboration and mutual support to contribute to advancing peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world./.
